A Great Walking Guide...... - By: Neil Payne, 12 Sep 2008
I, & 2 pals, used this book to walk the entire SDW last Month & found it to be an invaluable guide to the route. With accurate timings, great detailed maps & even the odd off-beat funny comment, it was easy to navigate & follow the route from it. The detail on planning was also excellent & we planned the whole trip from detailin this book - even refering to it during the trip to change our plans! OK a couple of telephone numbers have changed, but a quick look on the net produced the correct ones without problem. Of course the trip was made much better by not having to get the waterproofs out once, but I don't think this book was responsible for the weather!

A great walking guide that is a must for anyone doing the South Downs Way!
A thorough and excellent guide for planning and walking the Way - By: V. J. K. Lamburn, 03 Aug 2008
This book is just as applicable for people walking from Eastbourne to Winchester (I didn't myself) as the directions can easily be reversed; however I personally feel finishingin Eastbourne is much more natural climax to the whole walk.

The book itself is fantastic, it's an ideal resource for planning your trip as much as it is for actually walking the South Downs Way with its excellent, accurate & useful mapping. I did take the OS sheets & did refer to them a little for when I needed to deviate from the trail (to/from accommodation mainly) but overall I think this is one of the best travel guides I have ever bought.

A valuable & dare I say necessary companinion for this walk. It's also small, & the binding is such that it will endure the abuse of walking with it.

Highly recommended.
The perfect companion - By: , 15 Nov 2005
I used this booked to walk the whole of the SDWin October 2005. I found it an absolutely invaluable companion. The information regarding accomodation & services was accurate & helpful, but more importantly I ended up using the book for all my navigation, as opposed to the OS maps I had with me, such was the convenience & accuracy of it. Add to that its small compact size, & some interesting background reading as well, & you couldn't ask for anything more. I also used it to plan the tripin advance,in terms of how much to walk per day & which stops to make. The perfect companion indeed.
Superb guide to the walk, West to East - By: Mr. F. L. Dunkin Wedd, 26 Feb 2005
Absolutely the best book to buy if you're planning the walk startingin Winchester & endingin Eastbourne.

Contains everything you need to know - where to stay, when to go, who will book it & transport luggage, what to look out for - just everything. Excellent maps.

Peerless.
