A few friends & myself did the Annapurna circuit this year, & can highly recommend trekkingin this region.
Currently roads are being built to Manang & Muktinath. This road building has been going on for some time & is changing the pathin many areas, however it is not mentionedin the guide book, it is difficult to see how a book updatedin 2005 could have missed this. In some places the route changes on a yearly basis so I do not expect the guidebook to be completely up to date &in these cases the mapsin the book are an excellent way of getting your bearings, but such a major development as a road, & the impacts of the road should not have been missed. The road development will change trekkingin the region, when traffic starts flowing the classic Annapurna circuit will be changed, new routes will have to open up to keep away from the roads & the guide books will have to be completely rewritten.
Other examples of where the book is not up to date, almost all the ACAP checkpoints are notin the towns where the book shows them to be. In Ghandruck the book highly recommends visiting the ACAP headquarters, however the Maoists blew these up several years ago. These changes should have beenin the latest revision of the book.
However this is probably the best guide available, a friend had the Cicerone guide, this gave excellent route descriptions where the route had not changed since it was written, but was completely useless at the many points where the routes have been changed.
Overall I would recommend this guide book, but use it with caution.

As you can see I have already reviewed this book but I heard there was to be a new edition of it coming out soon & I just have to get it. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip there & the Trailblazer guide made everything so much easier. I am currently planning to go there again soon so I'll bring along the guide again. I did have a look at the Lonely Planet book on Annapurna & found it much less helpful than this book. BUY IT!
Trailblazer - By: M. Udagawa, 05 Apr 2004 This guide is really excellent. It gives all the necessaqry information & is definately worth the price. I have been to Annapurna & this guide certainly helped me. I know there are more guides from Trailblazer all which are fabulous especially the Cornwall Coast Path guide!
Good complement to LP Guide - By: , 15 Aug 2001 This book has a good deal of useful info. However the route descriptions are extremely detailed - rather like the Wainwright books to the Lake District of England. So detailedin fact that to follow them is to miss the overview. This level of detail might be useful for those lackingin confidence, experience & judgement of the outdoor environment. However, whether these people should be encoyraged to go into the mountains unaccompanied by a guide or experienced mountaineer is another matter. I much preferred the LP guide which gave all the really important info such as on altitude sickness, but did not treat the reader like a child.
Much better than the LP option! - By: , 01 Jul 2001 This book is still not perfect but FAR BETTER than the Lonely Planet Trekkingin Nepal. I did both the Annapurna Circuit (sanctuary) & the Base Camp & could not have done it with the detailin the LP book. Without a guide ... the maps & details are invaluablein this book.
