Great book (needlephobes use caution) - By: Araldia, 16 Oct 2008
The Heroin Diaries is more than a diary of Nikki Sixx life, it is an insight into his mind.
The pages are illustrated with doodles, & drawings that match his on/off love affair with heroin.
Great read for fan's of the band, & those interestedin the mind of a musician, but there are needle & syringe images lovingly drawn throughout, over 1/3 of the book is unreadable if you happen to be one of the 10% who are needlephobic.
My advice? Buy the book, & get someone to read it with you if you can't look yourself. It's worth the extra hassle to understand the passion, addiction & backstory of one of rock's most iconic figures.
Amazing book - By: S. Ward, 26 Sep 2008
This is a book i was unable to put down once i began to read it. It is a sad, funny & scary read of a rock star totally out of control. As you read this book you will find it hard to believe that Nikki survived all this & came throughin the end. Some of the entriesin the book make for uncomfortable reading, but that is the point he is making. Nikki is showing you that being a rock star may be a dream but it can also become a nightmare. The book has comments by motley crue & friends / lovers. It should also be noted that the book is lovely quality. the paperback is printed on glossy paper & colour is used throughout the book.
This book is not just for Motley Crue fans. Anyone who is interestedin the Rock 'N' Roll lifestyle will enjoy this book. If you want tales of sex, drugs & Rock 'N' Roll then grab a copy of this book.
Brilliant - couldn't put it down - By: Bryony Evens, 29 Aug 2008
A yearin the life of one of the hardest-living rockstars ever to survive, recreated through his actual diaries from 1987, interspersed with comments & memories by Nikki & his his bandmates, colleagues & friends (some of them also somewhat scrambled!)
I'min awe of how this guy stayed alive, but also a bitin awe of how clear he isin the diaries of where his problems stemmed from, even while he was using any drug possible to escape himself. All credit to him for coming back from the brink & tackling his demons sober.
Honest, eye opening and worth every penny!!! - By: Affs, 20 Jul 2008
When I started reading this book I found it very difficult to put down!! Nikki Sixx has poured his heart & soul into 'the heroin diaries' & its as fascinating as it is witty &in parts very sad.
A lot of close friends & family members have contributed & often shed Nikkiin a rather negative light (and some embarassing stories for Slash too!) but he doesnt try to sugarcoat anything & admits to being difficult!
I sent a copy of this book to my friend who has been through similar situationsin his life, he's already read it twice & has about 10 people waiting to borrow it!
The layout & artwork of the book is excellent & I'd strongly reccomend you listen to the 'Heroin Diaries Soundtrack' by Sixx AM....Its not very Motley Crue but it's very good, especially the tracks 'Life is Beautiful' & 'Accidents can happen'
Rock & Roll has always been my therapy & now so is this book!
Hmmm...sceptical - By: Napolean, 06 Jul 2008
I can't really say I enjoyed reading this book & it certainly turned into a chore rather than a pleasure.
I can't help thinking these so called 'diary entries' were actually written after he sobered up a few years down the line. I don't know any addicts myself, but I certainly can't imagine them with a needle hanging out of their arm writingin their personal journal or even actually remembering what they did the night before!
If it is true, then he certainly has lived an amazing life, but it all becomes a little self indulgeant at times. He continually complains that he's almost forced into taking drugs to escape the trappings of fame...whatever! Go & sit on a deserted beachin the Carribean for a month, I'm sure that would be a slightly safer option.
Anyway, having read the Motley Crue biography 'Dirt', I wouldn't really recommend this one. Stick with 'Dirt' for a much more interesting & enjoyable story.
