Why did I buy this?! - By: jostelle, 30 Nov 2008
I'm an open minded person & am interestedin learning about different religions & views held by others. I purchased this book to try & understand Scientology & what it actually means to be a scientologist (because it seems to be so secretive!). I've given it such a low rating because, as other reviewers have said, it's got no substance behind it. What shocked me the most was talking about the Scientology schoolin London which you must attendin order to become a scientologist. It quite clearly states that when studying scientology you are not allowed to speak about it with others or even other students at the college. You are only allowed to air your opinions or views to your tutor. Is it just me or is that brainwashing?! Needless to say, I didn't finish the whole book as I picked up pretty quickly what I thought just from the first few chapters - & I'm still none the wiser to what Scientology is!. I think the reason why they don't talk about their beliefs very muchin public is because they can't be proven & have no scientific evidence to back them up (aside from the fact that some things they believe are 'far out'). Scientologist or not, I don't think anyone will benefit from this book.
Utter rubbish - By: W. Thompson, 17 Nov 2008
This must be one of the most awful books I've ever readin years. It does nothing, says nothing & is of no use whatsoever. Cover to cover, it does nothing but promote scientology with obscure reasoning, lack of depth & has a horrible 90's PR feel to it.
Not a single "fact"in this book has the slightest ounce of double blind-tested science to it while making way over the top claims about how great scientology is.
Why pay money for PR?
Anything but balanced, but still has some good info - By: NoWireHangers, 03 Oct 2008
This huge volume published by the Church of Scientology's official presents some of the basic beliefs, practices & courses of Scientology, as well as the organization, the front groups. It also has the official description of Hubbard's life, & tries to explain why there are critics of Scientology (it's all because of the medical & psychiatric establishment). It's an attractive book with a beautiful cover & illustrations, but it's anything but balanced. It's pure propaganda & it also contains quite a few bits of information, not least about Hubbard's life, that has been shown to be incorrect. Hence my low rating. Keeping thisin mind, it's still an interesting book if you want to know how Scientology views & presents itself & its founder. It's also a good reference book if you're researching Scientology, hence two stars instead of one.
This book will change your life - By: Jon Snow, 25 Apr 2008
I haven't read this book myself, but my friend Tom tells me it helped him cure his dyslexia. That sounds incredible! He also says it helps with 'deal' with his sexuality.
It's got to be worth a shot. It also cures AIDS & cancer.
This book makes no sense at all - By: James Murdoch, 24 Apr 2008
I just read this book cover-to-cover. It was a giant waste-of-timein my opinion. Waffly trashtalk. A really lame attempt at sounding like real science.
People should proof read literature before it's published.
