a little heavy for the average reader - By: G. Bean, 23 Apr 2006
I can not & should not give negative feedback on this book because it was beyond me. I have read quite a few books on chakras & kundalini so am not entirely a beginner, however this I found quite heavy going & difficult to get into. It is definately for a more advanced individual & not your average reader. Hence I never finished the book. I think however that if you are at that level then it would be a good book packed with information & tips to help you into altered body states. Good quality book written for use as a work book. Just not for me. However each to their own.
useful if not long winded... - By: , 27 Mar 2003
Although writtenin a wonderful manor, this book can often be somewhat irritating. the continual references to personal experiance leave little relevance to someone who hasn't travelled so much, try finding peace & tranquilityin the centre of London! On the other hand, for those who are looking for a non-physical for of yoga, with particular emphasis on breathing & concentration, i would recommend this book.
wonderful book - By: , 20 Feb 1998
This is not your traditional yoga book. But it is to be treasured for that very reason. The author has all the exercises of yoga but notin the usual sense. For instance,in hatha yoga one need not perform bending & twisting exercises to get the same benefits of the authors version of hatha yoga which is meditation on accupressure points. According to Esoteric physiology, the body has main chakras & many minor ones which are energy centers. Each of these chakras confers either psychic powers, health benefits or other gifts when awakened. Mumfords version of hatha & raja yoga show how to awaken these energy centers & attain the highest goal of yoga which is nirvana or Godhead. The book is easy to follow & practice. The section on tantra does not need a physical partner, since it is axiomaticin occult studies that the same benefits are gained by practicing the excercisesin the imagination alone. An excellent book for the novice as well as expert yogi.
