Customer Reviews

Abit dissapointed after good reviews.. - By: bookreader, 21 Sep 2008
This is a book about how you can make the most out of your brain. The author is clearly very intelligent & knows the subject very well but alot of the book is very hard to understand because its writtenin so much jargon. I think the book would have been so much better if it were made simpler & easier to read. You do learn why we behave the way we do & how first imprints from when we are young effect us the rest of our life. The book also comes with some exercises which you do to exercise your mind. The best exercise is the coin trick which putting it simply means & teaches you that whatever you focus onin your life you get more out of. Alot of the exercises are outrageous & you have to think is this author on crack when he wrote it ? he even encourages you to smoke weed, so if its a book about making the most out of your mind why would he encourage you to do this, weed is known to damage the brain severely. There are exercises like pretend to be a nazi for 33 minutes & imagine planning taking over the world, study lions at a zoo, find other ways of pleasuring yourself. Some proper weird exercises. Basically it is a self help book & i give it 3 stars because i think there are other books out there which will benefit you much much more than this. Get Paul McKennas books ' instant confidence ' & ' change your lifein 7 days' believe me these are worth investingin & i promise you they work & so easy to read. The authorin this book is almost trying to show off his intelligence by making it harder to read than necessary with so much geek jargon.
Incredible incredible book - By: C. Bullen, 16 Apr 2008
I have only read this once (and I plan to read it many times more, for it is so rich) & I will find it here difficult to summarise exactly why I found this book so incredible, but here goes.

This book, & it's author R.A.W., will - if you are already somewhat inclinedin this way - give you the conceptual tools to wrap around the vague waysin which you've always suspected the human world is so messed up. Basically, we have a great about of robot-ism to us & we have strong preferences for certain ways of seeing reality which we try to impose upon each other (often to the death). The 8 circuit model of consciousness which Wilson expounds (it was originally Timothy Leary's) is an absolutely amazing multifaceted metaphor for the differences between us as humans. Only a sheer blockhead would not feel more tolerant of the humanity around him (and within him) after reading this book.

For someone like me, this was incredibly incredibly juicy territory & I devoured the book with every spare moment I had. It put so many conceptsin placein so many areas of my thinking where before I only had vague suspicions.

I can imagine that this book would scare some people - & some others may find it too "far out". But from my point of view I would say that is always some kind of resistance to the truth of our lives & what that will entail if we admit to it. But that may just be my own reality tunnel at work!

Anyway, if you are already someone who looks within & without for answers to why we are the way we are, this book will stimulate you greatly. It may even begin you on a journey of self-discovery. This book is at that level of importance for this certain type of person.

Also, it is writtenin a very colloquial style which some may find off putting, but this is RAW. He is an extremely honest & unabashed writer & this showsin his style. His incredible talent liesin synthesising the works of Leary, Crowley, Fuller etc etc

Anyway, yes, this book is astounding. The tired cliche applies: it changed my life too (but then so did my breakfast this morning!).
Do yourself and others' a favour and read this book - By: William C. Heslop, 03 Feb 2008
Very well written & easy to understand. It is like an acid trip without the acid - & a lot more constructive. It may change the way you percieve the universe & yourself in/of it (I hope it does anyway!).
A lot of great ideas and it will give you a greater understanding of yourself - By: David Hampson, 02 Feb 2008
I read a double-header of RAW books, this & Quantum Psychology & made the mistake of reading this earlier book second! Prometheus Rising is adapted from a PhD thesis for some hippy university. It seems largely derived from ideas of Timothy Leary but then RAW is an old hippy & it is not entirely surprising! Basically it discusses the idea that our brains have 8 different circuits of consciousness which are continuallyin development, & being aware of these can help us make better uses of our brains.

The downside of the book is that it is a little bit theory heavy which goes against the structure, but really that is down to RAW knowing so much & having so much to say. However, Quantum Psychology goes beyond the ideasin this book & I'd recommend going straight to that unless you're a completist!
its circuits, circuits, circuits all the way down! - By: AGT Lowe, 16 Oct 2007
i read this book first off several years ago & have re-read it many times since.

this is one of wilsons most straight forward books, that it obviously not saying much as it blends leary, gurdjief, crowley, psychology together into a multi-layered model.

if you have read any other of wilsons books you will be familiar with the term 'reality tunnels' a.k.a the reality, personlaity, belief system we are viewing the owrld thru now. a jew would view a swastika diffrently to a nazi for example, while two humanoids would have slightly diffrent staements after viewing the ame car crash.

this book explores & greatly adds to leary's 8 circuit model & shows you how these circuits operatein your life & how to change them.

another good book on this model is antero alli's 'angel tech' & any book on chaos magic that talks about beliefs like carrolls 'liber knull & psychonaught' or phil hine's 'prime chaos.'

basically by tracking & adding subtracting habits & recognizing where your machanical robot-brain circuits program your reality of life you can change your hardwired imprints & live a better life.

if you are constantly nervous & overeaat you most likely have circuit 1 (oral, survival cirucit) problems, if you have sexual issues (circuit 4), terratorial, power issues (circuit 2) & best of all how you can leap chapel perilous (dark night of the soul) & enter the fun, intelligence raising, higher circuts which used to be called enlightenment.

who is reading this right now? Is there life on earth?
