A fantastic spin off! - By: J. Gradwell, 18 Dec 2008
I love Death Note. Soin case you cant tell by the 5 stars up there I love this too.

I would like to point out a reviewer on here says this is fan fiction. Which is isnt the facts about the story arein the timelinein volume 13 also it is part of the Death Note story.

Also Kira (Light) fans may not enjoy this book as it is a book that is not about the Kira side of things more like L & Wammys house.

Now lets start the review.

Set two years before the story of Death Note. The main cast are Naomi,(remember her the FBI guys girlfriend?) L & a killer who goes by Beyond Birthday... (Who is new to this novel but isin volume 13 also.)

Naomi & L must hunt down this pycho killer with wit & thinking alone.
There are some others people from the mangain here but I aint telling anything.

The story of this (short) book had me all the way & its a real page turner. Beyond the villain of the novel is a great new coming to the story & a awesome pycho. (Almost at Kira level!)

Allin all a great read must have if you loved the manga as I did.

Gorgeous Novelette - By: N. Bunting, 10 Sep 2008
This is story is narrated as Mello doing a report about a case L told to him & gave him the notes for. All the charactersin this story are already dead, so Mello gives his interpretation, while inserting open-ending questions about things he can only speculate on to get the reader thinking, which is a clever story convention.

The story is filled with the usual logic bending you expect from L, as well as enough gore, comedy & freaky behaviour to keep you hooked.

It mainly resolves around two characters, FBI Agent Naomi & private investigate Ryuzaki, with L mainly a voice through a phone or computer. They work together to solve the puzzles serial killer BB has left at his crime scenes before he reaches his last victim, the puzzles being a direct challenge to L.

More about L's & the Wammy Orphanage's background is revealedin Mello's side notes. Plus, it's explained why a talented woman like Naomi coped out of her job & ran away to Japan to get married, something that never sat right with mein the manga.

1st Note: READ DEATH NOTE MANGA OR WATCH THE ANIME BEFORE GETTING THIS!

Or the mind game the author plays on the reader just won't work. And the Death Note movies won't cut it either, sorry, as Mello doesn't make to them.

2nd Note: This story was intended for a Japanese audience & a pinch of salt is needed. First off - the silly names for Americans, such as Quarter Queen, Blues-Harp, Bottomslash, Beyond Birthday, are an author's joke & their unlikelihood needs to be ignored. Secondly, you need to be aware that Japanese makes no distinction between R & L - it's the same character / sound, otherwise certain revelations will go right over your head.

3rd Note: At only 176 pages this is less a novel than a novelette, & at I first I passed it on - till I saw a copyin a shop & looked at it. This book is gorgeous. Don't wait for a paperback version! It's boundin a plush cover, with silver gilt, then there's a matching card wrap-round (also gilded) with a skull & skeleton design & the Death Note logo. Inside there's a new colour artwork for this story & each chapter is fronted with a gothic abstract on vellum. Wow! This book is officially the prettiest one on my selves that isn't an art book.

Loved it! - By: N. S. Stretton, 02 Sep 2008
I loved this book, it's totally worth the money I paid for it. I couldn't putin down & ended up reading itin less than half a day. I love the way he describes BB's actions too & the cover looks great. I bought it & couldn't help thinking: "Wow, this book looks great, you wouldn't expect it to be so elegant."
Great book.
Great author.
love it.
A conclusion worthy of the Death Note series. - By: Mr. RB FORTUNE-WOOD, 18 Mar 2008
This is fan fiction & crime fiction so certain allowances must be made; a few clichés are to be expected, errorsin narration can be forgiven & poor use of punctuation (particularly exclamation marks & ellipsis) can be put aside. These things are annoying, but Another Note made up for them with an excellent plot, an amazingly original new character & a conclusion worthy of the Death Note series.
